The first sweet almond trees are thought to have originated in Central and Eastern Asia, more specifically Armenia and West Azerbaijan, and were domesticated 1200 BC.<\/p>\n

Covered by a velvety skin, sweet almonds are green, fluffy and classified as nuts.<\/p>\n

Its firm flesh never becomes juicy. It’s an oleaginous seed covered with a brown skin.<\/p>\n

The world’s leading producer of sweet almonds is the United States. Spain ranks 2nd, and France 5th. Its production requires a mild climate in winter, as it does not tolerate frost.<\/p>\n
