Native to northeastern Australia, macadamia was botanically classified in the 19th century by the Australian-Scottish John Macadam and named after him.<\/p>\n

Aborigines have known and consumed its nuts for at least 5000 years. They called it bauple<\/em>, gyndi<\/em>, jindilli<\/em> or boombera<\/em>.
