Its history

A tropical tree growing from 8 to 25 meters high, calophyllum is native to the coasts of East Africa, southern India and Australia. Currently found around most of the Indian Ocean and the Pacific, in Oceania and more locally in the Atlantic Ocean, it has a tortuous trunk, rough, fissured bark and hairless, grayish twigs.

Its cold-pressed kernels give the famous Calophylle vegetable oil Inophyle also known as Tamanu oil.
