Milk thistle is a species of plant in the Asteraceae family. It particularly likes dry, sunny locations and generally grows in acidic soil .

Very common around the Mediterranean, it does not exceed 700 m altitude.

It can also be found in Southern Europe, Western Asia, North Africa, Australia and North America.
