Deodorized Shea Butter

Cosmetics

ORIGIN: Burkina Faso & Ghana

What is Shea butter?

Shea butter has many virtues.

Anti-irritant, stimulating the upper layers of the epidermis, shea acts as a protector.

It is rich in unsaturated fatty acids, phytosterols, vitamins and, above all, unsaponifiables (around 5%), which give it an emollient and anti-inflammatory action that encourages the penetration of active ingredients such as unsaturated fats and naturally-occurring vitamins.

Very good for the skin, it nourishes it and forms a protective film that prevents dehydration.

It is especially suitable for dry, damaged skin. It protects them from the cold and bad weather.

Karate butter can be used as a lip balm. It soothes chapped lips and leaves them shiny.

It also nourishes hair. It can be used as a mask or shampoo for dry, damaged hair. Applied before swimming, it protects hair from drying out.

Its history

Shea butter is extracted from the fruit of the shea tree, which grows mainly in the tree savannahs of West and Central Africa. The name ghariti means “butter tree” in Senegalese Wolof and is the origin of the French name “karité”.

The fruit, also known as shea, takes the form of dark green to brown ovoid clusters measuring between four and eight centimetres long and weighing between 10 and 57 g.

A fleshy berry containing one or two hard, whitish almonds surrounded by a thin shell and pulp, it isharvested by women between May-June and mid-September.

Shea butter is mainly used in cooking in Africa and in the chocolate industry in Europe (as a substitute for cocoa butter).

It is also known in Africa, Europe and the United States for its skin-softening and nourishing cosmetic properties, which make it an ingredient in many cosmetics and pharmaceutical products.
