Safflower

Food & Cosmetics

ORIGIN: Russia or Argentina

What is safflower oil?

Virgin safflower oil is the richest vegetable oil in linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid that is not synthesized by the body and must be supplied by the diet.

Its high linoleic acid content, combined with other essential fatty acids, makes this oil an essential food for the skin and intestinal mucosa.

This oil has low acidity and a light taste. It is often recommended as part of a controlled-fat diet.

Safflower oil, rich in linoleic fatty acids, helps regulate dry and very dry skin. Diluted in numerous products, it can also be used for hair care.

Its history

Safflower is an oriental plant found in the wild in Asia, Australia, Central and South America.

The plant is grown as an oilseed in Latin America and Asia, and for the coloring power of its flowers in the Mediterranean basin.

In France, the plant was exploited in the Midi, Alsace and Lyonnais regions for its dyeing properties. Today, these crops are rare.

In ancient times, safflower was used for its tinctorial and antifungal properties in the manufacture of mummy bandages by the ancient Egyptians, as well as in embalming ceremonies.
